The Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) is a hormone system within the body that is essential for the regulation of blood pressure and fluid balance. The system is mainly comprised of the three hormones renin, angiotensin II and aldosterone. Primarily it is regulated by the rate of renal blood flow. The renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) is a major hormonal cascade in the control of blood pressure (BP), hypertension (HT), and tissue damage. The primary means by which the RAAS contributes to acute changes in extracellular fluid volume and BP homeostasis is by adjusting the level of renin in the circulation. The architecture of the RAAS System is similar to a cascade with each component stimulating the generation of the next component in the pathway.

Intern Med. 1977 Oct 29 maj 2019 — The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system (RAAS) control blood-pressure regulation, exerted by the main effector peptide angiotensin II (AngII) identifying cats at greatest risk, the relationship between kidney disease and hypertension, and the important role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Renin angiotensin aldosterone system inhibitors (RAASi) are guideline recommended cornerstones in the treatment of patients with heart failure. However May 11, 2019 - The renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) is a hormone system that regulates blood pressure and fluid balance. Physiology of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone system The RAAS plays an important role in regulating blood pressure, blood volume, and fluid and electrolyte balance. In addition, the system appears to mediate certain pathophysiologic changes associated with …
The renin-secreting cells, which compose the juxtaglomerular apparatus, are sensitive to changes in blood flow and blood pressure. The primary means by which the RAAS contributes to acute changes in extracellular fluid volume and BP homeostasis is by adjusting the level of renin in the circulation. The architecture of the RAAS System is similar to a cascade with each component stimulating the generation of the next component in the pathway. Although synthesis of aldosterone is the final step in the RAAS cascade, the intermediate component Angiotensin II also has potent physiological effects as discussed in the next section. Renin Release The renin-angiotensin aldosterone system: pathophysiological role and pharmacologic inhibition Therapeutic approaches that target more complete inhibition of the RAAS may offer additional clinical benefits for patients with cardiovascular and renal disorders. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system is one of the most complex and important systems in controlling the blood pressure in your body.
